At the September 2001 meeting, The Egyptian Study Society (ESS) voted overwhelmingly to modify its relationship with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science from being an Associated Group within the Museum to an independent, Cooperative Organization. In January, the ESS will incorporate as a non-profit educational organization and will take responsibility for its own financial and other affairs. Many services that the ESS previously obtained from the Museum will now be provided by the membership. As a Cooperative Organization, the ESS will continue to support and interact with the Museum in areas of mutual interest. For example, the ESS expects to support the Museum Library as it has done in the past and anticipates having monthly meetings in Ricketson Auditorium once it reopens. If you need any additional information or have any questions, please feel free to contact our President.

At the November meeting the following people were elected to serve as officers for 2002.

  • Maxine Foster .............. Chairman/President
  • Anita McHugh .....Vice Chair/Vice President
  • Ellen LaBlanc ...............Recording Secretary
  • Keith Florine .................................Treasurer
  • Linda Anderson .................Member At Large
  • Robert Bigelow .................Member At Large
  • Richard Cook ....................Member At Large

Because the ESS will become an independent non-profit, educational organization after the first of the year, the "Steering Committee" will become the "Board of Directors" for the ESS and the titles of some of the officers will change at the same time. The first four officers will serve for one year terms and members at large will serve for two years.

The ESS needs your support even more as our new organization grows and changes. Also, we urge all members to continue their support of the Museum of Nature and Science. The Scribes Palette should have all the information on what's happening; being a member insures that you have your own copy mailed to you each month.
